Doing Some Good: ASCENT Annual Educational Conference Donations
Friday, September 20, 2019
ASCENT members have shown that they not only passionate about their industry but also passionate about helping others. Below are a few ways our ASCENT community came together to do good for others last week at ASCENT 2019 in Austin.
You Say It, You Pay It
The AOA, err, ASCENT conference was a fantastic time last week! President Tricia Long, COPM, placed plastic "You Say It, You Pay It" boxes in each session room in Austin. If you were caught saying "AOA," you had to pay up! Attendees, speakers and vendors filled the boxes and raised more than $405 that will all be donated to Hurricane Dorian relief. Thank you to all attendees who helped stuff the boxes!
Bears and Sports Equipment
What could be better than teambuilding and developing leadership skills while benefiting the community? That's exactly what happened in Lee Silber and Rhett Laubach's Leadership: Moving from Manager to Leader Boot Camp workshops at the 2018 and 2019 ASCENT Annual Educational Conferences.
Lee led a fun scavenger hunt at the Hilton Riverside New Orleans last year that sent attendees on a mission to find various pieces to build teddy bears. After some frantic searching and lots of laughs, attendees built the bears dressed as doctors with scrubs. 2018 Leadership Boot Camp attendee Linda Sicuietano from Bergen ENT in Hackensack, NJ, volunteered to take some of the bears to children facing surgery at her hospital. She shared the above photo this year of a sweet child embracing his bear built by last year's attendees.
This year, leadership Boot Camp attendees did a fun exercise signing and writing advice for at-risk teens on footballs and basketballs that were donated to Matthew McConaughey's Austin-based charity to use in their after-school program.
Thank you Lee, Rhett and all of our leadership Boot Camp attendees for doing some good to help our communities across the United States!
